1968 Triumph TR5 PI

We are delighted to be offering this popular classic from long term enthusiast ownership spanning nearly 30 years.

This TR5 is one of only 2,947 cars produced in its 12-month production run. It was originally registered in 1968 as a genuine TR5 PI and is an original UK supplied RHD model.

The car has had only 6 previous owners and was purchased by the current keeper in 1995. It underwent initial body-off restoration works in the mid-90s which saw many interior and mechanical components replaced and restored, and overdrive, a period optional extra, was also fitted to the car.

The engine, clutch, and gearbox were overhauled by Southern Triumph Services in circa 2004/2005, additional overdrive which wasn’t equipped originally on the car from the factory has been installed and the car underwent further significant restoration in 2021 with a complete exterior bare metal restoration supported by invoices.

This stunning Royal Blue TR5 is in great condition throughout and adds further appeal with a recent restoration and proof of comprehensive maintenance during its later life. Regardless of its exemption, this TR5 has a current MOT that is valid until January 2024.

True to its era, walnut adorns the dashboard in the wonderful interior of this Triumph, featuring black carpet trim, black vinyl seats, Smiths instruments, and a wooden Moto-Lita steering wheel.

Refinished in its original Royal Blue colour, the car presents well with chrome bumpers in great condition and brightwork showing only minor signs of pitting. The black vinyl roof is in good condition and fits the frame well.

Having covered a number of miles in this lovely TR5 we can confirm that it is an utter joy to drive, responsive throttle, tight and notchy gearbox, wonderful exhaust note and all of that with the wind in your hair and the sun on your face!

The TR5 is regarded by almost all as the most desirable model of the TR series. With very low production numbers and always increasing appreciation for the quintessentially British marque, it is a rare opportunity to own a classic car that is likely to become even more sought-after in future years.
